- Setup & Preparation:
- Park the motorcycle upright on its center stand on a firm, level surface (47).
- Place a drain tray directly underneath the right-hand (RH) engine cover (47).
WARNING The engine, exhaust pipes, and oil become extremely hot during operation. Allow the engine to cool to a safe temperature before handling components to avoid severe burn injuries (47).
Remove Cover Bolts:
- Using an 8 mm socket with a ratchet, loosen and remove the 3 M6 hex bolts securing the oil filter cover to the RH crankcase cover (47):
- 1 long hex flange bolt from the bottom of the cover (65).
- 2 shorter hex flange bolts from the top of the cover (65).
- Using an 8 mm socket with a ratchet, loosen and remove the 3 M6 hex bolts securing the oil filter cover to the RH crankcase cover (47):
Take Off the Cover:
- Gently pull the oil filter cover away from the engine casing along with its sealing O-ring/gasket (47) (65).
- Catch any residual engine oil that drains from the cavity into the drain tray.
- Gently shake and pull the oil filter element out from the cavity (48) (65).
NOTE Always inspect the rubber O-ring/gasket for tears, flattening, or hardening, and replace it during reassembly to ensure a proper seal against oil leaks.
